The Soapbox Derby was traditionally a bi-annual village event that is run in Great Cheverell on the August bank holiday weekend. Unfortunately, due to insurance funding issues, we are not currently able to run the race event.

It is a fun, family-friendly timed race, around a course in home-made soapbox karts. Anyone can enter and there are different categories for different ages of riders.

A soap box kart can be made from pretty much anything but it must have at least three wheels and a working braking system. All the rules are available in the information section.

It is best to get as many riders on the kart as possible for the downhill runs.

The route is not just a downhill run, it is a circuit around the village and has an uphill section along Green Lane that will require the kart to be pushed.

Together with the Soap Box Derby Ball which is held in the years that the Soap Box race is not run, we have raised over £135,000 for local charities in the Devizes area and also some selected national charities.

The chosen charities for 2023 are Myleoma UK and Dorothy House, together with Great Cheverell Pavilion, St. Peter’s Church, Holy Trinity School, Great Cheverell Village Hall. We also aim to provide a second defibrillator located near the Bell Inn at the centre of the village.
